prayer for weight loss | weight loss prayers and bible verses
Prayer for weight loss is powerful when we practice several different types of prayer to grow closer to God and to grow more aware of the barriers that hold us bound from not seeing the extra pounds fall off. So have you been asking God in prayer to help you lose weight but in the back of your mind you feel doubtful that God even hears your prayer?
I’m excited to share with you some weight loss prayers and bible verses that will help you learn about how God wants to bless you. In life we pray for all kinds of things and we know that God teaches us to pray in the bible. Oh, In case this is your first visit you my blog, my name is Renee Dumont and I want to welcome you to my ministry of health, Conquer Cravings for Christians and I hope you find a blessing to help you in your weight loss journey. My goal is to get you thinking that perhaps it is possible that prayer can help you lose weight by using the faith you already have. I’m here to remind you that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IN CHRIST. You just need to know in what way you should be praying if you want to lose weight and keep it off. Instead of going about it the way the world teaches the reasons why we want to lose weight, we will seek God's love and the way God wants you to approach weight loss in a healthy peaceful way. The bible teaches us quite a few ways to effectively connect to the love of God. God wants to fill your life with wisdom, truth and healing. God has many blessings available that he wants to give you to live a healthy Christian lifestyle. So let's look at several different types of prayer and how we apply them to our life for weight loss. There is no right way to pray at any given time but it’s important that we come to God with a willing heart to see how we keep falling short by what we say, think and do. It is also important that we confess that we are weak in this area when it comes to food and that we are willing to do whatever it takes to make the necessary changes to stop binge eating and overeating. how we can pray for weight loss:
Humility - for example is one way we can pray for weight loss. Dear gracious heavenly Father, I come before you in humility, for I do not live or eat as we ought. I want to do better to show you that I want to love you with my whole heart and mind and strength. I ask you in Jesus' name that you will put power and courage in my heart to stop eating in a way that hurts my health and causes me to have a high risk of getting sick. I want to do Your will. Amen.
Praise - begin to praise God in prayer for weight loss and for all the good things for example we see in this bible verse how to pray to give glory and praise to God. Nehemiah 9:5-6 “Stand up and bless the Lord your God from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.”
How often do you sing praises to the living God even when you are enduring hardship? You see it’s common for us to run to the refrigerator instead of running to God and blessing him even in tough times. God loves to be praised and he wants us to love him and pray just because we love him and he loves us. Praise him in song and lift up his name. Praise God for his beauty and grace. Praise God for his kindness and mercy. Praise God for redeeming us from destruction. God loves YOU! Praise him! Deliverance - this is the one we most commonly want to pray for when it comes to losing weight right? Of course, because we live in suffering and pain. But a prayer for deliverance also involves making an effort to acknowledge that we can do nothing apart from God, and that He has the power to pull us out from our deepest struggles. After all weight loss is not the root of the problem, the root of the problem is that food has a hold on your life. We need to seek deliverance from food being a stronghold and we need to somehow find our way back to God. These types of prayers are written throughout the Bible and most of them can be found in the book of Psalms. Check out these three prayers from the Bible for examples of prayers for deliverance. Psalm 3 “O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, ‘There is no salvation for him in God.’ But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people!” Psalm 18 2-3 “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of salvation, my stronghold. I call to the Lord who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.” In this next Psalm I will include how you can apply the prayer to lose weight and the underlying problems that might be overlooked in your life. There are many pieces to the puzzle as to why we turn to food instead of God and we need prayer, wisdom and guidance to help us apply God's word for weight loss success. Without guidance most of us will remain unaware of the underlying reasons and weaknesses that get in the way. This is what our members practice in the Real Faith ~ Real Faith Lifestyle Program. HOW PRAYER FOR WEIGHT LOSS CHANGED JACKIE’S LIFETake Jackie A. for example who’s been in the program for 3 years this May. Jackie has lost over 100lbs and is still going strong. She is developing a lifestyle through gaining awareness of the snares of the devil just like when Eve was being enticed by Satan in the garden that everything would be just fine by taking a bite of the apple. If Jackie was to only look at the thought of seeing her body get smaller and changing the types of food she was eating like we all do without including God in prayer, she never would be blessed by God from being delivered from negative thinking patterns, mood swings, overeating, anger problems and being overweight. She would be stuck in the same pattern that kept pushing her into a place of darkness. Instead, Jackie found deliverance from binge eating as she learned to seek God by praying for weight loss among many other problems she was dealing with and she learned what it really meant to entirely put her trust in him. Bottom line is what we see on the outside is usually a reflection of the problems we bear on the inside. Jackie is 3 years in and she is experiencing a true transformation through the power of God because she is willing to work at the root of her problems not just changing her diet. Jackie is a powerful witness for the Lord and she is a wonderful source of encouragement for our group coaching members as well as our entire group because where there are numbers there is strength. This is what we do in the Real Food - Real Faith lifestyle program. We make a commitment to God and we share what he is showing us about ourselves and he changes us from the inside out. If you are looking for a quick change, know that it takes time. It does not happen overnight and there is no magic prayer that will melt the fat away. It’s no different than training for a sport. You have to be passionate about developing skills of how to think when it comes to healthy habits and it’s my job as a coach is to help you develop mindset shifts based on your lifestyle and your relationship with Jesus. Prayer is the key that unlocks the door to your soul. Truth is, there’s a battle in your mind that needs to be won. Let’s take a look at another prayer in the bible. Remember God’s word shines light and helps us to see as God wants us to see. Join me in prayer for weight loss and my words of encouragement Here is a Psalm in the bible that can be prayed for weight loss
PSALM 25 1-2 & 25 15-21 We can choose to fix our eyes on Christ. We can claim victory in him and shift our mind to be set in winning the weight loss battle instead of having a victim mindset. For example, have you ever said to yourself or someone else, “I’ll always be overweight”, ‘I can’t help it”, “everyone in my family is fat, this is the way I was made”. You see we often have voices in our head that try to convince us that change is impossible. But God can deliver us from strongholds in our mind. Pray this prayer from psalms to to lose weight. Then talk to him in your own words.
“To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul, in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, [of how I eat or how I look] nor let my enemies [temptation] triumph over me…My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely [many of us because we are lonely] and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins. See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me! Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, [for past mistakes] for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.” Amen Look back at the verse for a minute where we read, My eyes are ever on the Lord, he will release my feet from the snare. You see, David looks to the Lord constantly for safety and we should too. He believes his enemy has set a trap for him, but he is certain the Lord will help him escape. Isn’t that what we are looking for when we pray for deliverance? Although we don't face the exact same earthly threats as David, believers in every period of history face the same dangerous enemy: the Devil. He prowls around like a ferocious lion, looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Sadly when we choose to devour unhealthy food when our mind and our emotions are unhealthy the more we fall into the trap of binge eating. The bible teaches us that gluttony is sin. Gluttony is the overindulgence of food, drink or anything in the world that takes hold of our life. Our mind is set on earthly desires and not on desires that line up with heaven to the point that it destroys our life with sickness and disease. Ask yourself this question. How many times have you found a new diet, a new meal plan and have all the tips in the world to lose weight but never experienced deliverance from overeating and binge eating? Ask yourself how many times have you made God the center of your weight loss journey and how often the only one you were thinking of is you? Was your weight loss journey meaningful? Did your diet add value to your life or did it make you feel frustrated? Let me assure you that once you commit time to pray about your weight problems God will open new doors in your life and break the chains that hold you bound. Well we all tried to lose weight to look good and in fact we all want to look good and that's ok, but it needs our reasons have to be beyond ourselves. I've done that and I drove myself crazy. I’m first to raise my hand. I lived that way for years until I made a choice to commit my ways unto the Lord.
