Crushing the Crave - One Step at a Time
Stop Sugar Cravings With The Benefits of Lemons
So. If I could tell you ONE thing that you could do every single morning right as you wake up to help your body eliminate some harmful toxins, stimulate your metabolism, improve digestion, and BOOST your energy level, would you do it?
Of course you would... and it takes less than 1 minute!
Here's the trick...
Immediately upon waking each day, squeeze about 1/2 to 1 full lemon (depending on size of the lemon) into an 8 oz glass of warm or room temperature purified water. This is gentler on your body first thing in the morning compared to ice cold water. I've found that slicing the lemon into quarters before squeezing by hand is easier than squeezing halves.
Drink this at least 10 minutes before eating any food for the day.
Make sure to use fresh organic lemons to make this drink, and not bottled lemon juice. You want to use organic lemons to avoid the pesticides that can accumulate.
The health promoting benefits of lemons are so very powerful.
For centuries, it has been known that lemons contain powerful antibacterial, antiviral and immune boosting components. We know that lemons are a great digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain citric acid, magnesium, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, pectin, calcium and limonene, which supercharge our immunity so that the body can fight infection.
We are all being bombarded with toxins from all angles in today’s world. Everywhere from the water you drink, the polluted air we breathe, the shampoos and other cosmetics we use on our body with chemicals, and of course, all of the chemical additives, pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and other harmful compounds in the food that we eat.
All of these TOXINS can have harmful effects on your body, harming your metabolism and hormones, impairing your digestive system, and zapping your energy levels.
Lemons are considered one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat. This may seem untrue as they are acidic on their own, being citric acid. However, in the body, lemons are alkaline; the citric acid does not create acidity once it has been metabolized. The minerals in lemons are actually what helps to alkalize the blood. Most people are too acidic (from eating too much sugar and grains), and drinking warm lemon water helps reduce overall acidity, drawing uric acid from the joints.
This reduces the pain and inflammation which many people feel.
In addition, the American Cancer Society recommends drinking warm lemon water to encourage regular bowel movements."
3 TOP benefits of lemon drink in the morning are:
1. Helps you to lose fat:
Since lemon juice helps to improve your digestive system, aids in removal of toxins, and increases your energy levels, this all combines together to help you to lose body fat as well through improving your hormonal balance.
2. Improves your digestion:
Lemon juice helps your body improve digestion and stimulates bile production. Lemon juice can even be an aid for heartburn and indigestion.
3. Boosts your energy for the day:
Even just the scent of lemon juice has been shown to improve your mood and energy levels, and reduce anxiety. Plus the detoxifying effect and alkalizing effect of fresh organic lemon juice can improve your energy through the removal of toxins from your body.

Want to learn MORE WAYS TO STOP SUGAR CRAVINGS?
•So are you taking steps to make healthier choices with your diet and are making sure you are getting adequate exercise each day.
*But are you practicing mindful eating?
You may be asking “What the heck is mindful eating?”
*What is the connection with understanding emotional eating and practicing mindful eating
in order to crush addictive food and sugar cravings? Let's look further into this topic.
According to Today’s Dietitian, mindful eating is the key to losing or maintaining weight. They state, “The core principles of mindful eating include:
• being aware of the nourishment available through the process of food preparation and consumption
• choosing enjoyable and nutritious foods
• acknowledging food preferences non-judgmentally
• recognizing and honoring physical hunger and satiety cues
• using wisdom to guide eating decisions
Mindful eating is easy to put into practice. It's something we decide to do on purpose in order to gain strength and determination to eat with a "new" attitude. By eating for good health we find our emotions are more calm and peaceful.
Just Simply slowing down and enjoying whole foods can help satisfy our hunger. This includes being able to enjoy the food and company at meal times. All it takes is making sure that you are intentional with your food consumption.
In addition to the weight loss benefits, some studies show that we absorb more nutrients when our food is adequately broken down in our mouth, before digestion. In an article about mindful eating US News states, “The more you chew, the more nutrients you will absorb.
Considering we eat to nourish our bodies, this is an important point to make. If you properly chew your food, it will be digested and metabolized more effectively.”
Mindful eating can also help you enjoy your food more. Take the time to savor the various flavors and textures as you chew. Many times our hectic lives lead us to rush through a meal without ever taking the time to truly appreciate our food God put on this earth to supply our bodies with what it needs to be both physically and mentally strong.
When our food consumption is off balance our way of thinking is off balance. This explains why there are so many people experiencing depression. We are not planning to do better with our diets, and therefore we are not doing what we should plan.
Adding mindful eating to your healthy lifestyle can be an excellent way to complement your existing habits. It can help you lose weight, aid in digestion, make your immune system stronger, reduce inflammation and help you to enjoy your food more than ever before. Give it a try and see how you feel!
Understanding emotional eating
DID YOU KNOW: If you’ve ever made room for dessert even though you’re already full or dove into a pint of ice cream when you’re feeling down, you’ve experienced emotional eating. Emotional eating is using food to make yourself feel better—eating to fill emotional needs, rather than to fill your stomach.
Using food from time to time as a pick me up, a reward, or to celebrate isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But when eating is your primary emotional coping mechanism—when your first impulse is to open the refrigerator whenever you’re upset, angry, lonely, stressed, exhausted, or bored—you get stuck in an unhealthy cycle where the real feeling or problem is never addressed.
Emotional hunger can’t be filled with food. Eating may feel good in the moment, but the feelings that triggered the eating are still there. You often feel worse than you did before because of the unnecessary calories you consumed. The sugar makes us feel sluggish, bloated, and for many caused joint pain (real bad) because of internal inflammation. Then we feel guilty for messing up and for not having more willpower.
Compounding the problem, you stop learning healthier ways to deal with your emotions, you have a harder and harder time controlling your weight, and you feel increasingly powerless over both food and your feelings.
That's where the 12 Step Program can make a difference for me and for you.
I am a BIG FAN of the 12 Step Program!
We will grow to be "EMPOWERED" to finally CRUSH THE CRAVE "one day at a time" or perhaps one meal at a time.

In closing: The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Thoughts To Ponder:
• Stop! Think about the source of your stress. Is this something that you can control?
• Figure out what you can control.
• If there is nothing you can do about the situation you are facing? you might simply have to accept it and move on.
• Deal with the consequences of accepting that you cannot change the situation at hand and take care of yourself
and your relationships.
• Are you stressing about something that hasn’t happened yet? Stop.
Don’t live in the future or in the past. All that exists is the moment.
Make the best choice that you can for the given moment.
• Let go and pray for the increase of that area in which we lack.
May God bless you with abundant health.

As They Say In OA- Plan What To Do &...
Here's a great saying from Overeaters Anonymous that has stuck with me since i was 11 years old.
For Today, I Will "Plan what to do, and do what you plan".
This is all about realistic baby steps.
So, plan on "CRUSHING THE CRAVE" one baby step at a time!
The easier the changes can be for you, the easier it will be to make them stick.
One of the most important things you can do for your health is to plan ahead.
Planning ahead is one of the most important key to reaching your goals, and maintaining your ideal weight. It will also become a natural part of your weekly routine. You will find that planning ahead brings you a greater sense of contentment.
You know the saying “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” right? I find this to be so very true when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. It does take a little planning, but it’s well worth it. The best part is that it will usually save you time and stress down the road.
You’ll want to look at your week ahead of time (probably on Sunday morning), so you can be proactive with finding time to exercise and prepare healthy meals. What do you need to have ready for the week in order to be more prepared?
What days and times can you exercise? On those super busy days, can you find 12-30 minutes for some kind of physical activity? Maybe try one of my 12 minute SUPER FUN circuit training routines, pick out your top songs that will get your blood pumping, or take a prayer walk to talk a the one who loves you most. How about trying a strength yoga work out at home.
Now go ahead and plug your options into your calendar as if it’s an important appointment, so you don’t forget, so you can "CRUSH IT".
Plan ahead the night before to get your workout clothes ready, leave a written note on the stove in RED marker (one of my tips) so you’ll be ready to go.
If I left things to chance, I would probably never exercise or cook very many meals at home. Little reminder's and small notes of awareness will make a different.
We’re all busy, and have a million things to juggle, and this is why planning is so important to your success.
Even God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, but to give you a future and a hope.
If you find yourself wondering what’s for dinner, and it’s 5:00 pm, you probably failed to plan. It happens to all of us, believe me. I’m not perfect either, but I plan things out a lot more now, and it’s a lot less stressful and a whole lot healthier.
One thing I always do is to keep plenty of apples and cucumbers on hand. Stock up on at least 1 healthy snack veggie and 1 healthy snack fruit like apples or blueberries.
(TIP) Busy days and nights might call for putting a meal together in the crockpot, or making salads in advance so you can bring it to work or have food ready when you get home.
On Saturday or Sunday, plan out your week and your menu so you can get to the grocery store to stock up on what you need for the week. Take 1 hour of your time or cook and freeze so you can grab & go during the week.
By taking just a little bit of extra time to plan, you can make sure that you always have healthy food choices at your fingertips, and you aren’t rushing to make the quick, convenient, highly-processed choices. In fact, those foods are the "TRIGGER FOODS" for most of us. They are a waste of money, and a waste of important nutrition that our bodies starve for and need.
What planning can you do this week that will help you stay on track, and accelerate your success?
START HERE: Write down at least one thing you can do different and then join me in asking God to help us "Change the Things that We Can to live a life of abundant happiness".

Did You Know That Breakfast Helps Stop Sugar Cravings
Eating a healthy breakfast can refuel your body, and help you to eat less later in the day. When you skip breakfast, you are more likely to overeat later in the day. Consuming a healthy balance of carbohydrates, fat, and protein can fill you up, and satisfy your hunger. For myself, I love a nice Orgainic plant based protein shake made by ORGAIN. i usually add frozen banana and berries. I make some really yummy peanut butter oatmeal cookies and use a healthy no calorie sweetener called SWERVE that taste and looks just like sugar. 2 cookies is a serving. Oatmeal is a blood sugar stabilizer and will make you feel satisfied for a very long time.
Eating breakfast can help get your day off to a good start and help you stay energized. When you sleep, your digestive system slows down. Many people eat lightly or skip food completely in the morning, eat heavier in the afternoon, and finish off with a big dinner (and dessert too). There is a problem with this strategy as it deprives you of food when you need it the most, which is in the morning. If you skip breakfast, your body stays in this slower state, slowing your metabolism and leading to weight gain.
Eating breakfast can help to jumpstart your digestive system. Consumer Reports agrees with the benefits of breakfast, stating, “Eating within 2 hours of waking can make a difference in the way you metabolize glucose, or blood sugar, all day. Your glucose level rises every time you eat, and your pancreas produces insulin to shuttle the glucose into your cells, where it’s used for energy. Research is finding that keeping glucose and insulin in the right balance has important effects on metabolism and health.”
Breakfast is not just an extra meal. It serves several purposes in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
BE A BREAKFAST CHAMPION! YES, YOU! Try to eat at least 1/8 cup of raw oats per day before 1:00 in the afternoon to make you feel satisfied and avoid any cravings for sugar.
